Smart Video Thank You Pages

Posted by Zachary Reese

Video Thank You PageThe thank you page is the first thing a subscriber experiences after signing up to your email marketing campaign. It does a lot to establish expectations about your campaign.

It’s also where you can knock their socks off.

An awesome thank you page can get subscribers excited about receiving your emails, making each each and every broadcast you send a celebratory occasion for them. (Or, at the very least, make them more likely to open your emails.)

With the launch of our new Web Form Generator, you can also offer a more personalized thank you page experience to subscribers.

A Smarter Way To Say Thanks

Smart video thank you pages are the happy medium between AWeber’s default thank you page and your own custom URL.

We pass subscriber form data to the page so that everyone who signs up to your list gets a unique experience.

This is your subscriber’s name with your confirmation subject line. Not a generic “Check Your Inbox” message. And it’s as simple as choosing Smart Video Version from the thank you page drop down menu.

Not only that, the smart thank you page will pick out the subscriber’s email provider and adjust the video accordingly.

So if someone enters an address that includes @gmail.com, they’ll see a video telling them to check their Gmail inbox. Likewise with Yahoo, Hotmail and many others.

If we don’t have a specific video available (say, for addresses at personal domains), your subscriber will see a video showing the most popular email application for their operating system (Outlook for Windows, Mail for Mac OS X).

It’s probably the closest thing to magic you can experience using a web form…

  • Jessica Other test@example.com

(Remember, this is just a demonstration. You won’t be signed up to any list, and we aren’t keeping any information you enter into the form.)

A good looking web form makes a great first impression on a subscriber, but an engaging thank you page is just as important.

You can shape expectations and build anticipation, all the while directing the subscriber to their inbox.

    Thanks!

  2. Hey, I love this! Thank you so much for continuing to add wonderful ideas and experiences to the Aweber service.

    I’m wondering about two things:

    1. Sometimes the confirmation email goes into someone’s junk folder, and I don’t notice the text on the TY page letting them know that.

    2. It looks like you’re saying that if they don’t receive it, they should just go sign up again. In the past that didn’t work (my subscribers had MANY issues with that), because they got the “you’re already on this list” error message.

    Can you clarify?

    Thanks!

  3. As always, Aweber keeps adding Value. Thanks. Yes, it makes it very clear to the person who is signing up, as to what to expect next. Video will increase the chance of confirming their email id sooner.

  4. Good. That means we’d not have to upgrade our host provider as the video appears on your server, am I right? :)

  5. Samantha,

    1. We had to decide whether it was worth lengthening that video and page to account for those "sometimes" situations. We felt it was not.

    2. Subscribers can sign up once per 12 hours to be sent another copy of the confirm email. The error message you’re referring to mentions this, and is personalized to show the time after which someone can sign up again.

    Codrut,

Exactly – we host the video, so there’s no extra load on your site/server when you use the smart video thank you page :)

    Looks awesome.

Question though, does it open an entirely brand new page that’s not hosted on our domain?

I currently use Google Analytics to ascertain how well my site is funneling visitors to the signup & confirmation page, so if this new page is offsite, then we wouldn’t be able to keep visitor statistics.

  8. How do we embed this video into our thank you page and keep it on our website? I noticed that someone above had the same question because he wanted to make sure he can use Google Analytics. I have the same issue.

    Great idea!

I would most likely use this feature for those who would be responding to receive a "free report".

Can the audio be modified by either you or myself to announce something like: "Please check your inbox now to confirm your "free report", rather than: "Please check your inbox now to confirm your subscription"?

    Thanks!

I am with JT and Rodney. Is there a way to embed this video on our custom thank you page? That would be the best option for me.

  11. This is FAAABULOUS Justin! Bravo to the team for being such clever little possums!

I particularly liked seeing my own name WITHIN the video Inbox example – oooh I’d love to be able to do that in my own videos:-)

PS – how do the other commenters get their photo/avatar to show?

    Have a gorgeous day all

Hi there. Same question as above, but not yet answered. Would be keen to host the video on own server to track and keep look and feel of website.

I tired copying source code but video doesn’t display. I saw that the DIV tag where the movie is meant to be displayed is empty so used FireBug to see what the source code should be. Copied that and inserted full urls to AWeber and it appears to work.

AWeber staff, please confirm this is ok to do and for those people who are knowledgeable enough to do this, that you are happy for them to do it.

Please note anyone who does this, you are hard coding the ‘fromText’ and ’subjectText’, so if you change these in AWeber you will need to update your code.

    Thanks

  15. @Ian,

Because of feedback like yours, we will offer this self-hosted option soon, so that you and others may just copy and paste it into your own thank you pages.

What you describe in your comment will work in some ways, but not in other important ones.

The video will show your confirmation subject and "from/reply" address in a simulated email, but it will not show different email clients based on your subscribers’ addresses or their name in the subject if you’ve used personalization.

You can keep an eye on our blog for any announcement on new features, including this self-hosted smart video.

  16. Thanks Marc, I will look forward to having the copy and paste option.

Yes you are correct, my suggestion only works when it is not including the person’s name in the video. Fine if just a generic subject line.

If possible could we have a few different video size options; small, medium or large. Or even better be able to add a pixel width for the video so it can be inserted into an existing webpage layout perfecty.

Thanks for a great product and continuing to listen to your customers :)

    Kind regards, Ian

P.S. Sorry one more request. Would like two options:
    1. To only have video embedded (so we can create our own subscription message)
    2. Include video and standard subscription message.

Great feature however I have a few suggestions:

    1. Would definitely like to see the embed video option available as I still like to have control over the look and feel of my thank-you pages, as well as being able to use my own tracking such as GA on my thank-you pages.

    2. It would be great if you could provide maybe a longer version as an alternative as well. I have always found that the clearer you can make it for people, the more response and confirms you will get. I would like to see a version where you at least click on the email and then show them the link inside the email that they need to click on. And maybe even make them aware that by NOT clicking on this link they will not receive the information they have requested. I think even with those things the video would still be short enough for most people.

By providing us with a short and slightly longer version, it allows us split testers to find what works best for our own situation.

    Thanks guys!
