Custom Confirmation Page

New Features - Tom Kulzer (AWeber CEO) - September 11th, 2006 - Permalink

Screenshot: Custom Confirmation Page URLReleased this morning is a subtle feature allowing greater control over where visitors are sent after they confirm their subscription. Instead of being directed to the default success page indicating that a new subscriber has confirmed a customer can now specify a separate website URL to direct those visitors.

Use this custom page to:

I’d love to hear about other uses of this custom confirmation page in the comments section below if you have any suggestions.

Setting up your custom confirmation page is easy:

  1. Create a new website page on your site including the items from above that you wish to use.
  2. Login to your AWeber account.
  3. Click on “List Settings -> Verified Opt-in” and scroll down to the area shown in the screenshot.
  4. Enter the URL for the website page you created in step 1.
  5. Subscribe to your list with a test email address and click the confirmation link in the email you receive to ensure that you have everything setup properly and are directed to your new page after confirming.

This feature has multiple benefits for me as an email marketer. I’m glad Aweber has finally implemented it.

  2. Jen Tschida

This is a great feature! Thanks so much for implementing something that I’ve thought was needed for quite some time!

The consistent branding element of the feature is especially appreciated!

I LOVE Aweber and I recently started a heated debalte on Aweber - you can see it at http://www.musthavemarketing.com/37 Anyway, this is just one more reason you guys rock. Thanks for this - it’s a HUGE benefit to many marketers like myself. Keep up the ASTOUNDING job!

  4. Dan Kelly

Thanks, Tom!! This is a fantastic upgrade that will certainly bost the effectiveness of my marketing.

  5. Tim Houston

Thanks guys. This is a welcome change for the better. Keep the upgrades coming!

    Hey Tom,

I’d have planted a message here sooner, but I’ve been busy testing it out.

All I can say is, sweeeeet!

    You’ve done it again. Thanks

Hi guys, I knew it was a matter of time.

This may be more huge than you know. In BM we talk about
making an offer after someone opt’s in to your newsletter.

But making sure you get a high Double Opt In Rate was crucial. So you
    had to choose:

    - Sacrificee DOO rate for better OTO success
    - Sacrifice OTO success for higher DOO rates.

Not any more, now I nca use a template page like this after they optin
    http://mikefilsaime.com/optinyes.html

and then that forces the to go to the conf link and then te conf
    link can show my OTO…

    All Marketers will love this!!!

    Thanks

Minor tweak: on this instruction "Create a new website on your site including the items from above that you wish to use." you might want to add the word "page" after "website"

I’m off to explore it now…
    Thanks!

This is one of the best enhancements you guys have made to this. This has always been a sore place with me but no more.

    Great Job!!

    Mical Johnson

P.S. You guys just made my christmas list with this ;-)

Deciding on which autoresponder services to use for the new marketers is often not easy.

To say this is just a subtle change is an understatement. This one feature will definitely help to place Aweber higher at the top of my review site.

I look forward to more enhancements from Aweber as always.

    Thank You.

I continue to be impressed with what Aweber offers for the price. Thank you!

  12. Tim Norton

This is awesome because it makes the process shorter for the person opting in. They don’t have to go yet another time to their email to find what I send them. They’ll go right away.

    Thanks!

  13. Peter Koning

Wow - I requested this feature recently re the ability to add in the tracking, and glad to see you listened. I’d like to take some credit but am sure there were others asking too :)

Good job guys. Running off to work on my page.

    Cheers,
    Peter

    Great Work!

I really missed this feature when signing up for AWeber some time ago, I had it in my own custom email script. Great to have it available again.

    Hi Tom,

Awesome… thank you… thank you… thank you… in January I asked if this feature was available and of course at the time no… this was one of the few things I didn’t like but I switched to your company anyway.

No regrets… I’ve been very pleased with your service and support and it keeps getting better and better. Aweber Rocks!

Keep up the great work… now to go create those custom confirmation pages and get them up.

One thing you should remember is that once you make that confirmation page check the 1st email in your followup sequence, if any. That email will still be sent immediately after confirmation, so you might need to reword it or rethink your sequence.

  17. Paulo

Ok this was the missing feature. I can now use in full the double opt in. Specially when my customers are non english speakers and the confirmation page was in english. This confused even more. This solves the issue. thanks for hearing your clients.

  18. Helen Sigler

Sir, i want to subscribe to your e-mail parts and letters, i love it and got your page from a friend.

    Thank you,

    Helen Sigler

  19. BJ

Just to be clear, is this feature only available when you are using double opt-in? I am fairly new to Aweber, but am amazed at the tools you guys offer!

    Thanks

  20. Tom Kulzer

    BJ,

Yes, this is a feature specific to confirmed opt-in lists. The "thank you" page is what show’s after a person initially fills out a form on your website.

  21. Michelle Greene

Hey Guys, just wanted you to know this is a great enhancement.

    Keep up the good work!

  23. Mealto

Is this the same feature as using the hidden tag in the sign up form like so?

    <input type="hidden" name="redirect"value="http://www.mydomain.com/confirmation-page.html">

  24. Tom Kulzer

    Mealto,

No, it’s a different feature. The "redirect" field you mentioned is where a subscriber is redirected to after they fill out your web form. (#2 below).

The feature mentioned in this blog post would set the web page where a visitor is redirected after they confirm their subscription using confirmed opt-in. (#4 below)

    Sign up process:

    1) Visitor fills out web form.
    2) Visitor is redirected to your thank you page.
    3) A confirmed opt-in message is sent requiring the user to click.
    4) User clicks the confirmation and is redirected to your confirmation landing page.

Hope this helps clarify where things happen.

  25. Mealto

Thanks for the clarification Tom. That makes sense.

I would also like to do the same sort of thing for the confirmation page if possible, could you give me a hint as to the code I will need?

  28. Justin Premick

    John,

I’m not quite sure what you’re asking about here. This feature is for the confirmation page (the page that people see after clicking on the confirm link).

I’ll drop you an email to follow up.

  29. Mike Russell

This thread came up as a result of a search for "post name email to script" because I’m looking to try and integrate DL Guard with Aweber, so I can protect a free gift in return for a sign up. I imagine this must resonate with many of you, yet it I’ve not seen it. Will Aweber allow, better yet, explain how information can be passed on like this? Anyone got any ideas?

  30. Justin Premick

    Mike,

Posting to your AWeber account from a server-side script or form, such as DLGuard, is not something that is permitted. Unfortunately autosubmitting from such a script does not allow us to establish the necessary audit trail for subscribers.

You’d need to import those customers rather than trying to autosubmit them from DLGuard. Please refer to the Knowledge Base links below for more details and a walkthrough on importing:

Knowledge Base: Can I Submit Subscribers From Another Form/Script?

  31. steve warshaw

Is there a way to include the cgi variables for the persons name in the confirmation link? It would be nice to personalize the page they are brought to after confirmation

  32. Justin Premick

    Steve,

That’s not something currently built into the confirm success page.

However, if you’re forwarding variables to your thank you page, you could have your web developer set a cookie on your thank-you page, then personalize your confirm page by pulling the information from that cookie.
