T-Shirt Contest: We Have a Winner!

T-Shirt Contest: We Have a Winner!

The recent T-shirt contest received over 160 entries. Apparently a lot of you like creating things :)

After reviewing everyone’s ideas, our panel of judges selected their favorites. After a recount-free vote, we’ve chosen a winner.

Congratulations Dave!

The winning idea came from AWeber customer Dave Aron, who suggested we take part of this blog and incorporate it into a simple T-shirt design:

“The concept I have is a T-Shirt covered (including front, back & sleeves) in a Tag Cloud like what is up above to the right under the ‘Popular Topics’… in the center of the tag cloud, as the largest letters, could be ‘I?m with AWeber’.

Our design team took Dave’s idea and converted it into a T-shirt that is being printed as we speak. Here’s an early mockup of it:

As our contest winner, Dave picks up free year of AWeber service (added on to his current account with us) and a couple of T-shirts from the first printing.

We’ll also be taking T-shirts to conferences and handing them out – as well as periodically sending them out to customers and readers just like you :)

Thanks again to everyone who participated in the contest!

  1. GREAT idea Dave, and I’m glad you won!…

While thinking outside the box can be good, you picked something that’s already associated with AWeber. If only I hadn’t thought of it myself!

I hope you’ve got my size, as I’d love one in the post Justin! ;) LOL

not wanting to sound like a sore loser – but the brief did say:

"We need your humorous and witty ideas for an email marketing-related design and slogan for the shirts."

The winning idea is good but I dont see how its humorous…

  4. I want one.

Maybe you should dish these out to those who comment on this post. At least then you’ll have a group of active participants who are likely to use them to help promote Aweber.

    You know all about targeting!

    Just an idea.

I don’t care if I sound like a sore loser: the brief also said, "It?s not necessary to create/include a full-blown design to win – we?ve got skilled designers here. We?re mostly looking for content/slogan ideas."

By this I thought you meant you were truly in search of a good slogan, and that a design was secondary. Not that it’s terrible, but the idea behind the winning slogan is older than the trees.

I still think ‘Spread the word’ by "Silvia" was the best slogan – with 3 words it functions on two levels: describing what AWeber does and marketing AWeber itself.

Did you, as promised, pick a few runnersup? The tag cloud is nice, BTW, but "I (heart) AWeber?" Ugh! Congrats, Dave. Too bad they didn’t go with your entire idea.

  8. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Dave!!!

That’s definitely what AWeber is all about.

    Great job, well done.

    Congrats!

I too have to agree with a few of the responses. While the design is well done and appropriate, the guidelines stated "Wit" and "Humor", neither of which are included in the winning design.

Regardles, it was a fun opportunity and Congrats again!

  10. So how does one get one of these shirts! I definitely think you should send it to all who comment on this post – and all affiliates :-)

"…Apparently a lot of you like creating things" I’d rephrase that to a lot of us like free stuff ;)

  12. Cool… now if someone could just figure out how to ‘RSS’ that T-shirt, that would be even cooler!

    Simple!

    Good!

Love the cloud/tag concept — worth stealing for other projects ;)

  15. Dave,
sometimes the simplest and most obvious solutions are the ones we most often overlook! While it’s not funny "Ha ha" it is pretty darn good in my opinion. I’d wear it! :)

    Congratulations!

  16. I am not one to criticise usually, and congratulations Dave, however, I think that for those people who don’t know about all this stuff, for sure, they won’t have a clue what most of the ‘terms’ mean.

Plus, as some have identified, it is not humourous.

Plus, it probably would be better saying ‘Aweber.com is the perfect solution for …’

Should have web address, huge mistake I believe.

Just my thoughts, no I did not enter.

  17. Great shirt. I would def workout in this one. I could admire my email marketing company while watching myself perform front raises in the mirror. Please send me one!

You know your audience better than I do. I do think the tag cloud is missing a word like "value" or "affordable." Not really very sexy or original, so you don’t really differentiate yourself automatically from your competition at tradeshows (which is where it sounds like you are heading with boxes of these) unless your competition’s t-shirts are really really bad. I would be embarrased to wear one of these because of the "I Heart AWeber" on the front. That was a great idea in 1980 when New York City used it and since then it has been used and overused for thirty years. I would recommend that you give Dave his prize for the tag cloud idea and re-think the front of the t-shirt.

People who criticize the choice of winner are missing the point of companies having prize draws that involve ideas:

    1. To get ideas from lots of people because they were not happy with the ones they came up with themselves.

    2. The whole thing is subjective and not everyone is gonna agree with the choice of winner.

    3. The fact they included the word ‘witty’ in the original description is because they did not yet know what they wanted until they saw it! The ultimate decision is made by the company, and it’s their prerogative to change their mind.

    Well done Dave!

Looks great. Just underneath the cloud tags could be

  22. Did I miss something, or is that shirt not really particularly reflective of what Dave appeared to have in mind, apart from the presence of a tag cloud?

What I read was that the entire shirt was to be covered with a tag cloud, the most conspicuously-sized tag of which was to be "I’m With A Weber".

I thought that idea was great.

I agree with the other commenter that that "I [heart] Aweber" is neither original nor particularly effective from a marketing perspective. I think you have to sort of know about Aweber already to know what it is. A URL would be helpful, even if it is the obvious construct, if only to encourage people to look it up.
