How Do I Use Global Text Snippets?

Global text snippets are bits of text (around the size of a few words) that you create in order to easily update multiple messages at once in your list, without forcing you to edit each message one at a time. You may not use them for everything, but there are times at which you may find them useful.

For example, let's say that you want to have a featured website in your messages, and you would like that to change every week. You could manually change each message one by one each week, or you could use global text snippets to do the heavy lifting for you!

Please note that there is a 100 character limit on these snippets. If you need more text than that, you can add the text directly to your messages, or use multiple snippets together.

Instructions for AWeber's new message editor are below. Instructions for the old version of the editor are further down the page.

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Select List Settings from the My Lists tab in your account.

  2. On the List Settings page, click the Personalize Your List tab at the top of the page.

  3. Now, give the snippet a name and enter the text you'd like to start with and click the "Add" button. We're starting with "domain" here so that we can easily change the URL of our featured site, but remember that you can just as easily create a text snippet for anything you'd like: "webinar date", "coupon code" - anything that you want to be able to change in many messages at once.

  4. Once you click the "Add" button, your snippet will be added to the list, ready to be used in your messages.

  5. When editing a message, first select the place where you would like the snippet to appear.

Next, click the Add Personalization button (it looks like a sillhouette) in the toolbar above the editor.

The personalization field will appear in your message along with a box where you can scroll down to the Snippets section and choose the one you'd like to insert.

Once you've chosen the snippet you want, it will appear in your message.

For Example

Let's say that you have a a blog, and you'd like to include a link to your latest blog post in each message that you send out. You could simply create a text snippet to do the work of updating your messages for you, and include that text snippet in each of your follow up messages. Then, whenever you make a new post, simply update the text snippet on your List Settings page, and all your messages will have the new link automatically.

You can do this for any information that is subject to change - you could even use text snippets to include the names of recent contest winners in your messages, or add a personal touch to your follow up series by including a brief quotation that you change each day or week.

Using AWeber's Old Editor?

  1. Select List Settings from the My Lists tab in your account.

  2. On the List Settings page, click the Personalize Your List tab at the top of the page.

  4. Once you click the "Add" button, your snippet will be added to the list, ready to be used in your messages. Note that the personalization field you will use in your messages in order to display this text snippet in a message will appear just below the name of the snippet on this page. In this case, it would be {!global domain}.

  5. Now you can just add this text snippet into any message you would like. In this case, we'll use our text snippet to complete a partial URL:

  6. Note that you can easily access your global text snippets while editing your messages if you happen to forget the name of the snippet you need to insert. Just click the Personalize link just above and to the right of the message editing area, and select the snippet you would like from the menu that appears.
