How Do I Deliver an eBook?

Providing an eBook or other digital download is a great way to give an incentive for signing up to an email campaign.  Some people also provide these at a cost and want customers signed up to an email list.

To secure the book as a download and ensure that downloaders also are added to your mailing list, the best way is to deliver it using your email campaign.

How to Deliver Your eBook

There are three ways to consider:
  1. Attach the document directly as a file to a message.
  2. Upload the file somewhere on your website and link to it from within your message
  3. Break the document up into sections and send it as series of follow up messages
Each has it's own pro's and con's you'll want to consider before making a decision.

Tip Bulb Regardless of what method you choose, you should consider using confirmed opt-in for your campaign to be sure subscribers are giving you real email addresses rather than bogus ones.

Method Pro's Con's
Attach a file to your autoresponder message
Deliver file that is immediately downloadable when someone signs up to a list

Some ISP's filter messages into junk folders based on files being attached
Link to a file from message
Keeps size of email low so subscribers don't need to wait to read message

Helps to ensure email makes it to the inbox
Requires that the file is uploaded to the web somewhere it can be linked to
Send as a series of messages
Keep subscribers engaged in messages.

Can use tracking to see what section of document is most effective
Subscribers will have to wait to receive all sections.

Not as printable as a downloaded, digital document.

Caution Triangle Do not attach a file if it's a Word Document (.doc) or executable file (.exe).  These two formats will very likely certainly be filtered by the subscribers' ISP and should be downloaded by link.
