“Do Not Reply” Address? Don’t Bother.

by Justin Premick on May 6th, 2009

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn’t belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?

It’s not often we invoke Sesame Street on this blog, but today it seems appropriate.

Let’s play a little game: which thing doesn’t belong in your email marketing campaigns?

Is Your Thank You Page Awful? Here Are 2 Ways You Could Make It Better

by Justin Premick on April 22nd, 2009

We noted in a recent post an example of how one of our users tracks the effectiveness of his signup forms.

It occurred to us shortly afterward that at AWeber we take that feature (Ad Tracking) for granted. And it’s not the only one.

We spend so much around our features that sometimes it doesn’t occur to us that some of you are missing out on the firepower they can add to your email marketing campaigns. Some of you (and I’m not naming names here ;) ) don’t even use many of the most powerful tools at your disposal!

We think this is partly our fault. So to help correct this, we’re going to show you how various tools in AWeber can create better subscriber experiences, save you time and make your campaigns more effective. If you use them, of course.

For starters, let’s talk about thank you pages…

Testing...

Email Testing Inspiration: Tips and a Recent Example

by Justin Premick on April 6th, 2009

Sure, you’ve heard about the value of testing in your email marketing campaigns.

You’re familiar with some of the big gains that tests can bring you. Perhaps you’ve even looked over some of the examples of things you can split test and considered doing them.

But there’s a pretty good chance you’re not testing as much as you could, or even as much as you might like to. Most marketers aren’t.

Getting in the habit of testing requires us to think not only about what we want to test in a broad sense, but also what tests to conduct (and how to conduct them) so that the results are useful to us.

Recently, I found a couple articles that I thought would help you get more out of your existing email testing - or simply start conducting more tests to optimize your campaigns.

by Justin Premick on March 24th, 2009

As a reader of this blog, you might occasionally wonder, “where is email marketing headed?”

Me too. So to see what others were doing with their email campaigns, Jay Moore (you’ve probably heard him on one of our free live webinars recently) and I recently headed to Miami for MarketingSherpa’s 2009 Email Summit.

After several long days jam-packed with case studies, presentations and chats about email marketing, we walked away with our brains full.

Here are my biggest takeaways from the Summit:

Video In Email: One Step Closer To Reality?

by Justin Premick on March 19th, 2009

Maybe.

As you may have discovered, sending video email by embedding a video in the message body doesn’t work. The best practice has been to insert a clickable screenshot of the video (perhaps an animated image that looks like a video).

Why Did That Email Get Marked As Spam?

by Justin Premick on February 24th, 2009

In the comments of our recent post on email whitelisting, John asked about how to deal with spam complaints and shared what his experience with them has been.

After looking back through other posts on spam complaints, I didn’t see one that fully addressed his comment the way I wanted to. And I’ve heard similar comments and questions from other people.

So let’s talk about it.
