New QuickStats for Email Newsletters

QuickStatsIf you’re like most people reading this blog, you love data. Not this Data, but the kind that paints a picture of what is and isn’t working in your email marketing.

The trouble with data, of course, is that sometimes it’s hard to know which data is important and worth focusing on. Not to mention that for it to be valuable, the data has to be actionable, too.

Last week we leaked some information about a soon-to-be-released tool that not only helps you see how your email marketing campaigns perform, but also makes it easy to take action to increase your response rates and conversions.

And now, it’s here.

Announcing Broadcast QuickStats

QuickStats makes it easy to understand how your broadcasts performed by showing you:

Even better, you can use the data to identify responsive and non-responsive groups of subscribers – those people who:

Not Only Are QuickStats Useful and Easy-to-Read… They’re Actionable, Too!

This is by far my favorite part.

One of the most powerful things you can do when you know who clicked a link, or didn’t open an email, is segment out those subscribers and broadcast only to them:

It’s an effective way to talk to people who are interested in a particular product, feature, part of your website or anything else you’re linking to.

Plus, when you’re able to identify who didn’t open or click, and then email only those people, you can:

  1. Thats Great! I had no clue that Aweber had anything like this! This is something I will be using.

    Thanks Aweber Team!

  2. An amazing addition to an already great product! Keep up the great work.

  3. I LOVE the changes. These new stats are great. I especially like that I can click on a segment with one button to email to certain people that may or may not have opened or clicked. This is so powerful! It will help me to send more specific emails to get people to take action or find out why they didn’t take action, etc.

  4. It’s like you guys read minds. I have been thinking up something like this but not to the extend you have gone, you have done evem more.

All I was thinking was why aweber doesn’t, or in this case didn’t have a feature which allows us to select only certain recipients. So weldone, I think it’s a cool feature in the sense that sometimes you want to deselect people who would have purchased a product.

It saves time as you are able to seperate your subscribers on the same list.

Now, while at it guys, another thing which has been crossing my mind recently is about the cool thank you pages you created for us.

My thought was, wouldn’t it be cool if you could incoperate our affiliate links alongside your terms on those thank you pages, just to give us that little extra exposure in the case of those who may not confirm.

I believe it will help us get sign ups which will be a win win situation for both of us.

    Just a thought.

I think the new stats rock. They’re quick and easy, and I can tell who opens what in a matter of seconds. Keep it up guys!

Thanks for this. I think it’s a step in the right direction.

Because now that I actually understand the stats, I see that the open count and percentage is not for unique opens.

Can you offer unique opens and clicks as well?

  7. Hi and thanks,

This is going to be of immense value – Sometimes we tend to bogged down with information overload, but this new feature sure will make it very helpful to see what is working and why.
    Thank you

  8. Thanks everyone for your kind words about QuickStats – keep ‘em coming (and tell others ;))!

    D G,

The QuickStats graphs show uniques (see the upper right-hand corner of the graph) but not the percentage – I’ll ask our Design Team what they think about finding a place to put the percentage of uniques.

    Thanks, Justin.

I think it should be on the main dashboard as well with a %.

I just now realized that decisions I’ve been making based on split tests may have been wrong because one subscriber opened his email 32 times and that skewed my test.

It seems to me that uniques are far more useful as a basic statistic.

    Thanks.

  11. hi,
i love this feature because i can do many possible things with it,

but can i see report for a month?

so that i can see remove users who didn’t open my mails for last 30days?

    thanks

  12. AWeber just keeps getting better and better, thanks for all the time you put in for us.

  13. D G

And just an observation: The QuickStats do seem more “current” than the front page dashboard. The dashboard updates at least a few minutes behind the QuickStats.

Overall, it’s a great feature. Thanks to you and your team.

  14. D G,

Stats are cached in various parts of the site as you load them so that returning to the page loads extremely quickly. All depends on when you load the pages, they all have approximately the same cache duration.

  15. That is awesome!
Another tool to help us a lot on knowing what’s working and what’s not.

I like especially the part about being able to send a note or additional message to those that didn’t open for any reason.

The more contact opportunities, the better, within reason of course!

    Well done, you guys rock!

    8/3/2010 3:23 pm
  16. Sounds like some really impressive improvements. I’m looking forward to trying out the new Quick Stats features… particularly the list segmenting feature.

Sounds like a good webinar! How about having one outside of the business day?

    8/3/2010 4:34 pm
  18. Well done Aweber! I love these stats! And what I love best is being able to segment the recipients into opens and non-opens.

    Fabulous – and thank you!

The question is – when are you going to let us automatically create ‘sub segments’ of a main list without having to get people to re-subscribe? (ie I would like to have a seperate list of my VIP clients, but I can’t just move them across from my main newsletter list, I have to get them to re-subscribe to my new list, which seems a bit clunky). If they’ve subscribed to me once, I should be able to move their data so they get info that’s only relevant to them.

Sorry, off topic I know, but if you’re doing one set of great things… ;o)

    Kim.

  19. Great new features, I will update this on autorespondergeeks.com. Keep up the great work as for now AWeber is #1 rank at there.

  20. G Srinivas,

You can certainly view and remove subscribers who have not opened messages over any time frame that you desire. Please see the knowledge base article below that describes the function in more detail or get in touch and we can walk you thru it. Dig around in the "search" page, there is a ton of functionality there for those that play around with it.

  21. Kim O’Rourke,

There’s no need to move subscribers to an entirely new list if you want to segment them. You can create a segment easily within an existing list and email to it as though it was its own list.

  23. Wow… This is AWESOME!
Yet another addition to AWeber’s power tools arsenal!

So far my favorite feature was opt-in form split-testing, but I think QuickStats beats it!

Thank you for constantly improving your service!

    8/3/2010 10:59 pm
  24. I love this new feature! It makes it so easy to target exactly the people you want to without alienating the rest of your list who do not need to be sent certain e-mails ago. Bravo, aweber!

    8/4/2010 11:24 am
  25. I’m still on legacy features :-)

I guess I might have to re-evaluate upgrading my account, or perhaps order new one to play around with all the tracking.

    8/4/2010 2:19 pm
  26. No doub, this is a very useful feature. Now you can send the same brodcast over and over again to your list without upseting customers who did opened it already.
Rising open rate the great way, I like it!!!!!!!

Love it! I especially like the data on how many unsubscribes happened with a particular broadcast.

Keep up the great work, Aweber :)

  28. This is by far the BEST improvement! So useful!

I especially like the segmenting so I can send to the un-opens or un-clicks.

    Thank you Aweber! Genius!

  29. Quick Stats looks awesome! I have never found the time to get my head around how to segment and resend or market to sections of my subscribers. This makes it sooooo much easier.

    Thanks Heaps!

    Tom and / or Justin,

I’ve been thinking about this a bit more.

Why does AWeber show the total opens and click by default when this number doesn’t really tell us much? If I do a split test, wouldn’t I only want the unique opens and clicks?

It seems to me that making the unique opens and % at least as prominent, if not default, would be more useful. No?

    8/6/2010 5:04 am
  31. Jennifer

When will you do another webinar on this?

    8/6/2010 9:28 am
  32. D G,

Some clients want total, some want unique. Right now total is listed on the first page and when you click thru you can see and easily compare both. Either way we slice it some group of clients is always going to want the opposite of what is there. These are the trade offs that must be made when doing application UI design.

    Hi,

Correct me if I am wrong, but not only you upgraded the new accounts (which is good) but also downgraded the older ones (which is bad).

Until this latest change, I could see which links were clicked. Now this feature disappeared . Am I missing something or this is what really happened?

I like Aweber a lot and I like the fact that you are bringing a lot of improvements to the new accounts. I just hope you don?t mess up with the old ones though.

    Thanks.

    8/12/2010 10:47 pm
  42. Am?lcar,

All previously available stats are still there, the "clicks" tab details those links using the new format or you can still access the old graphs via the "Reports" tab if you prefer that format.

  46. I don’t like it… the old version allowed me to see WHO opened and clicked without having to jump through hoops. Without having to open a spreadsheet in microsoft excel…

Sorry, I see that people love it… I guess they are better than me, or not as busy.

  53. WOW – This is really cool. Great direction Tom, I’m really happy to see Aweber constantly making advancements in their system.

Segmenting the lists is absolutely brilliant! – I’m so happy that I think I have to blog about this and link to Aweber’s home page with “email marketing” as the anchor text (seriously).

I do have the same question as Malcolm Pennington above — do you plan on adding this feature (or something similar) to autoresponders? I would really like to see the reporting for autoresponders get an upgrade.. I’m sure it’s in the works, just saying :)

All the best Aweber team – keep up the great work!
