The lightbox opt-in is OK with Google Adwords

I implemented the lightbox on a new landing page where I was setting up an Adwords campaign. Google disapproved of two of the four ads (all were pointing to the same page with the lightbox!!). I sent an email to them saying that it was a "pop-over, not a pop-up" and explained per Jason's post above:

"the lightbox form (from Aweber) isn’t actually a new window that appears - it’s a part of the page just like text/images/etc. And it goes away when the page is closed, the user hits "ESC" or the form is closed using the "close" link."

They responded:

"Thank you for your email. I am sorry that your ads were wrongly disapproved for pop-ups. I looked into your account and have approved your ads. Your ads should be up and running on Google soon.

Your patience and understanding is appreciated."

So, if you run onto problems with them, try the same argument...

Tom,

Dropdowns work with lightbox forms - just tested one myself and it renders fine in IE.

If you're having trouble with a particular form, perhaps our <a href=/contact-us.htm" rel="nofollow">Customer Solutions Team can help you?

Has anyone tried to add a dropdown to a form in a lightbox? It doesn't seem to render in IE 6 or 7.

Jonathan,

Due to technical limitations related to the way browsers and Flash work, this is not possible with lightbox or other hover forms.

I tried adding a YouTube video to the lightbox, and it seems to kick out both embed and iframe code. Any way to put a video in the lightbox?

Thanks in advance

Hi All,

I'm a week into Aweber and find these comments really helpful.

Q: How can I add graphics to a web form and change the button label from 'submit' to something catchy?

Thanks in advance.

PS: It seems to work ok for me in IE. See here: http://www.munroboards.com

Laura,

Re: putting a lightbox form on every page...

You can set any type of pop-up (e.g. pop-over / lightbox) form to appear only once per visitor.

If you put that form on every page of your website, as long as your visitor has cookies enabled, it will display only once, no matter how many pages they view in their visit, or for as long as that cookie remains stored on their system. And I think the cookie is set to expire something like two years after its stored.

The problem is, if cookies are not enabled in their browser, they will see that form each and every time on every page they view.

Because of this, my recommendation is to not put the pop-up form on every page of your site, as it would effectively make the site unusable for the minority of visitors who disable cookies.

That is, unless you or a developer adds some JavaScript to your site that checks for cookies before having the browser load the form.

Hope this helps.
