Tips on Growing Website Traffic
Posted by Marc Kline
How do I get people to visit my website?
Whether or not you’re new to running an online business, this question must have crossed your mind at one time or another. After all, as we often mention in our live email marketing webinars, your email campaign does not exist in a vacuum. If you don’t have traffic coming to your site, it can prove to be difficult to build a dedicated readership.
In order to help to answer this question, just last week I posted an article on blogging , which among others things, touched on how blogging can help to generate traffic.
But then Jeff from our support team mentioned how a general resource on building website traffic would be useful also. Our support team provides a pipeline to the concerns of customers, so any time they have something to say, we listen. I added an item to our Knowledge Base to help to cover this topic better:
Of course, we’re no traffic experts, but we’ve learned a thing or two from talking with customers over the years. And just like you, we run a business whose success relies on converting traffic driven to our own website.
Engage Your Web Traffic
Read the article for some ideas we’ve shared. But remember that traffic is just part of the equation for success. If you haven’t already done so, publish an opt in form to your site to convert would be one-time visitors into leads that provide more lasting benefits to your business.

These are just a few ideas to get the gears going, but I’m sure our readers would love to hear any ideas you’d like to share in the comments here.
There are also plenty of resources out there. Here’s one I just bumped into over at ClickNewz that includes some new ideas:

One of the best ways to generate traffic to sites is by leveraging the free video hosting services.
Right now:
- Over 51% of ALL web traffic is video
- Over 12% of ALL web traffic goes to YouTube
- In June 2007, more than 71% of all US Internet users watched video onlineIf you "keyword load" videos on YouTube (which means, use frequently searched for keywords in your video titles), your videos will get scraped and found by Google, MSN and Yahoo search engines and show up in the main results.
Viewers who see your videos on YouTube and other engines visit your site - prequalified and ready to sign up or buy your programs and products.
One great example of this can be found if you search for "Bionic Burger" on Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYyDXH1amicLen Foley made this video for $82.50, it’s been seen over 300,000 times and he generates enough traffic to his membership site that he’s making over $12,000 per month in recurring revenues.
It’s a very powerful strategy.

Hi Mike,
Videos definitely have the potential to drive traffic to your site and signup form. A MarketingExperiments.com study last fall talked about adding video to your marketing mix.
Check out our write-up on the study.
I’d be curious to see the source of those stats you quote, though, particularly the 51% figure. Is that linked up anywhere?

Hi Marc,
I completely agree with Mike and Justin above.
Video is the most prominent way of attracting
traffic to any website.I have a website with Five Videos and a 5 minute
Presentation Movie.Having these video elements added to my traffic
and sign-ups so much that I can now sit back
and enjoy life with no financial worries.Adding videos to my website is what did it.
Hope this helps.
See what I’m talking about here:

Yeah video is certainly doing it for me. I’ve only been at it with my new website (http://www.InternetMarketingWizards.com) for two weeks now, and I’m already up to about 50 unique visitors per day.
And that’s without promoting my website yet! Imagine what the traffic will be like once I start promoting it using other techniques. Just the fact that people will share the videos with their buddies could increase the traffic exponentially.
Thanks for the other great tips!

Video is absolutly one of the ways to generate free quality traffic to your site. I have made over $25,000 this week alone from people who watched my video online and were directed to my site.
Another great way is by giving free quality traffic to the audience by publishing this content on blogs, forums, and social networks.
Creating viral marketing is also a great one.
Make it a great 2008!
