How To Put Social Share Buttons In Your Emails

You’re going to like this one:

1. Drag and drop.


2. Pick the buttons you want.

3. If you like, customize the link.

Available In The Message Editor

…As you’ve probably surmised. New, as of today.

Pop them right into your emails – the top, the bottom, the exact middle point, wherever you like.

Easy, no?

What Do They Share?

In short, whatever you want.

By default: The web version of your broadcast.

Otherwise: Enter your choice of links. Most likely, that’ll be a link to an article or page the email’s about. Then your subscribers will send their social contacts directly to your content, skipping the newsletter middle-man.

For Follow Ups, Customize Your Link

Follow ups aren’t archived like broadcasts are (there’s much less need for it), so your social sharing buttons won’t default to sharing the web version of your email.

All this means is in follow ups, Step 3 (“Customize your link”) is necessary.

And since the goal is to get people to your content, we’re guessing you’d likely take this step anyway.

Everything you already do stays the same, and now you can add social share buttons as well.

    I can’t figure out to do this in an already existing blog broadcast. I went to message editor and I could not see anything that looked like the page in the video.

    okay I figured it out on messages but I would like to put it in the blog broadcast. I would also like follow buttons for Pinterest and Google Plus. Could you add those as well?

    I’m looking for these on blog broadcasts too. Do you have an estimate on when this feature will be added?

    It’s a deal-breaker for me and the reason why I haven’t moved my list over during my free trial period. With a third-party app, there are buttons for Facebook, Twitter, and just about every other service out there, except Google Plus and Pinterest. Pinterest is what is driving a lot of blog traffic right now. You can add the code manually to make a pin it button, but who wants to do that for every single blog post?

    Cool new feature. Although I would rarely like to distract my potential readers with social buttons in my emails. The only thing I want them to do is to click on my website link in the emails.

    I hadn’t even read the comments first, but the first thing I did was to try to put share buttons on an existing blog broadcast. That currently does not seem to be available, neither in an existing blog broadcast nor in a new blog broadcast. Can that be made available as well?

    I do love the feature for a normal broadcast email. It is so easy and looks so professional. Thanks for continually improving your product!

    To follow up on my earlier comment, I did some research today and nobody else seems to be able to do it either! I’m sticking with Aweber hoping that you’ll be the first to add this feature. 🙂

    Jennifer, Stan and Leanne, for now, the blog broadcast still uses the previous editor, so you’d have to add them by hand. Feel free to copy the images from the new editor, though. Passing your request onto our developers.

    Oh, and Jennifer, Google+ is in there, so that’s one request fulfilled. 🙂

    I like the new share buttons, but I used a copy of a previous email as a template and Google plus is picking up the old message so I don’t feel comfortable using it yet.

    Or we can use Feedburner for putting social share buttons in email , there are various social share buttons can be putted in email.

    Brad, The previous editor doesn’t actually give you any pieces you can drag in, so you’d have to use the new one.
    That said, you can do this in the previous editor by adding images and finding the “share” link to use for each network, then adding {!archive_url} as the URL.

    Trouble getting this to work:
    using Twitter As an example
    This is the code I put into my form. The button shows up but it doesn’t carry over the blog post url into the twitter message box.

    Any help?

    Any update on pinterest being added to the share drag and drop option?

    I’m really keen to add one to my mails and simply don’t have the tech knowhow to custom make one.
