Google+ and Email Marketing Podcast: The Remix
We made some predictions about Google+ – Google’s new social network – in a podcast a few months ago. What is this new network all about? And how does it compare to Facebook and Twitter for online marketing?
During our first podcast, Google+ was still in a limited beta release. It’s since opened to the public and made some changes to its many features. Now that it’s a new year, we wanted to follow up with our predictions from last year and include some new insights for integrating the social network with your email marketing campaign.
So what’s changed and what does it mean for your online marketing efforts?
How Google+ Has Changed
Google+ has seen some changes since its public release in September 2011. Among the more noticeable changes are:
- Brand pages – profiles designed especially for businesses. And just like personal profiles, brand pages come with Circles that allow you to segment and target your followers easily.
- Hangouts – Google+’s video chat feature – has seen significant improvements too, including screen sharing and the ability to broadcast your hangout to a bigger audience on YouTube.
- Another important change to note for content marketers out there: Posts on Google+ are now included in organic Google search results. In some cases, content from Google+ ranks above actual web sites and articles on the topic you’re searching for.

What’s Your Take?
Originally, Jay declared that Google+ would no longer exist. Andrew and I took a less drastic view that the network would fill more of a niche role for content distribution.
