Update on What We’ve Done Since the Recent DDoS Attack

Dear Loyal and Valued Customers,
We’d like to apologize for any interruption of our service that you may have experienced in the last week. As you may already know, we had been under repetitive Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks since last Monday, February 24th, causing our service to be unavailable at various times. Please know that none of our services have been breached, and that no data has been compromised by the attackers. We’d like to give you some more details about what’s happened and what we’re doing moving forward.
For those unfamiliar with the term, a DDoS attack is when an attacker floods a site, with no prior warning, with so much malicious traffic that it is unable to respond to legitimate traffic. Since our founding 15 years ago, we have successfully fended off many DDoS attacks, most of which did not affect our service in any way because of the quality of the protections we had in place. Unfortunately, this recent attack was a new type of attack that is almost unprecedented in size and severity. In fact, last week and continuing this week, dozens of large online companies experienced similar DDoS attacks knocking them offline, including Bitly, Meetup, Shutterstock, Wix, Moz, Mailchimp, GetResponse and more. Since the initial attack, AWeber has worked around the clock to not only fight these attackers, but also establish new partnerships that will help shield us from future attacks. We continue to maintain our commitment to you by being as transparent as possible. While no site is ever 100% attack-proof, we want to let you know that AWeber is more prepared than ever to thwart any future attacks.
