We talk a lot in this space about the power of analytics when it comes to marketing online. Knowing what people are doing on your site is a great way to target the right audience with the right message, leading to more conversions.

A few weeks ago, we announced a new AWeber/PayPal integration, which makes it easier than ever to add your customers to your email list.

We love to talk about the new capabilities of the API, which made this integration possible. But in our excitement, one of the new features didn’t get quite the spotlight it deserved.

So today, I’d like to (re)introduce you to AWeber’s integration with PayPal subscriptions, which enables you to manage a paid newsletter with ease!

How Can You Use This?

Perhaps the most obvious way to make use of this feature is to have a paid subscription to your newsletter itself. If you have valuable content to sell, you can easily automate the subscription process, creating another revenue stream.

If you have a PayPal subscription set up for another reason (a print magazine, for instance, or paid membership to a website), it’s still a good idea to tie your mailing lists to subscribers’ payments: adding value through an email campaign tied to their subscription is a great idea, and gives customers another reason to stay with you.

Remember, the key is to send content that customers will find useful. If the product is worth it, people will be willing to pay.

How Do You Set It Up?

The first step in setting up this integration is to create your subscription in PayPal.

Then, if you haven’t already, set up the PayPal app in your AWeber account. You can find the app at the My Apps page of your account.

Note that by setting this up, you’ll be able to use all the features we talked about in our earlier blog post, including using automation rules to move customers to new lists when they make a purchase and having a different list for each product that you offer.

You don’t have to do anything else. AWeber will automatically add new PayPal subscribers to your list. Then, if they cancel their payment, they will be unsubscribed. When they catch back up on their payments, they go back on the list – everything is automated.

What’s more, you can add people who buy different products to different lists.

This means you can send:

• A series of emails showing customers how to use and get the most value out of the product.
• Upsells for products related to the one they purchased.
• For digital product buyers, a link to download their purchase.
• A paid subscription newsletter using PayPal’s subscription payments.

There’s no limit to the number of lists you can create with AWeber, so this app is as powerful as you need it to be.

Let’s look at some examples of what this means for AWeber customers:

WordPress

A few weeks ago, the AWeber WordPress plugin got an overhaul, enabling people who comment on your blog to subscribe to your list.

What made this possible? The API.

Facebook

More recently, you may have seen a new option show up when creating your web forms in AWeber. Facebook registration enables visitors to your site to subscribe without touching their keyboards as long as they’re logged into Facebook.

What makes this work? The API.

What Else Can Apps Do?

The sky’s the limit here. Apps can update subscribers’ information, view statistics from email campaigns, and even add new subscribers to your mailing lists.

Facebook needs no introduction. It has a staggering number of users, so integrations like posting recent newsletters to your fan page or placing a web form there are always exciting to talk about.

Today, we’re happy to introduce a new Facebook integration: Facebook registration for your AWeber web forms.

What Does It Do?

Enabling Facebook registration for your web forms will automatically enter the name and email address of a visitor to your page as long as they are logged in to Facebook. Those not logged in to Facebook will simply see the normal web form.

Essentially, Facebook users will be able to subscribe to your list without touching their keyboards.

How Easy Is It to Use?

In a word: extremely. As of right now, you’ll notice this checkbox whenever you create a web form (or edit one) in your AWeber account. Simply check the box, then continue as normal. Nothing to it.

When you place the form on your website or send people to the AWeber hosted version, the Facebook registration will be available.

Three Reasons This Is AWesome

• It lowers the barrier for entry to your mailing list. Visitors to your site don’t have to type anything in order to subscribe.
• Email addresses collected this way are more likely to be valid and active, since the address that Facebook provides through the registration form is the same one that was used to sign up for the Facebook account.
• There’s no chance for typos. The email address is transmitted directly from Facebook to your web form.

Specifically, it now has the ability to allow subscribers to sign up to your list when they leave a comment on your blog or register there – without having to fill out a separate web form.

In addition, the plugin now comes with a dashboard pane, giving you access to information about how well it is working for you.

How Does It Work?

If you missed our original post about the Web Form Plugin for WordPress, it allows you to install an AWeber web form on your WordPress blog, like so:

The best part about the new subscribe by commenting feature is how easy it is to use. All you do is turn it on, and your blog’s visitors will see a checkbox whenever they leave a comment or register. Check it out:

Once you update or install the AWeber WordPress plugin, you simply check a box and choose the list to which you want subscribers to be added. For complete instructions, consult our knowledge base.

As a final touch, you’ll now see this on the home page of your WordPress dashboard:

This dashboard pane gives you a quick overview of how the plugin is performing for you, letting you know how many people are signing up for your mailing list by commenting or registering on your blog. Why Is This AWesome?

First, it makes it easier for visitors to your blog to subscribe. Sometimes, even the most interested reader overlooks a web form, and this gives them another chance to sign up: always a good thing. In addition, the potential subscriber doesn’t need to fill out a separate form. Checking a box while already leaving a comment is a lot easier than commenting, then finding and filling out a completely different web form.

Second, let’s look at who will be subscribing via this feature. They only get added when they’re either commenting or registering on your blog. This means that the people who are subscribing using this feature are very interested in what you have to say. Pre-qualified, engaged, active: whatever you call these subscribers, they’re the cream of the crop when it comes to who you want to be on your list.

We’re always excited to announce a new integration using the AWeber API, whether it’s for signup forms on your blog, landing page optimization, or even social media.

This week, we’re bringing you something a little bit different – we’ve integrated with Rapportive, which is itself an add-on for Gmail. It basically connects your Gmail account to your social media networks, displaying recent tweets or wall posts from the person whose mail you’re reading.

What Is Rapportive?

As mentioned above, Rapportive connects your Gmail account to social media sites – for more information, take a look at their website.

As it happens, AWeber and Rapportive work very well together. When do you most need access to information about your subscribers? When you’re replying to their email, of course.

The AWeber app for Rapportive displays your subscribers’ information in a sidebar while you’re reading messages from them.

Once it’s up and running, you’ll be able to see the lists that your subscribers are on when they email you, right in the Rapportive sidebar, like so:

You can get even more information by clicking on a particular list. This will pull up a detailed view of the subscriber’s information on that list, with information including their sign-up date and the last follow up message they were sent:

Setting It Up

To get things rolling, first install Rapportive.

You can find the AWeber raplet through the “Add or Remove Raplets” option in the Rapportive menu once you have Rapportive installed – for more detailed setup instructions, refer to our knowledge base.

Soon, you’ll have access to your subscribers’ information while you’re reading their email to you. How cool is that?

Web forms are a crucial part of any email marketing campaign. Without a form, you couldn’t build your mailing list in the first place.

In most cases, creating and installing a web form is simplicity itself. However, when using a Content Management System (CMS), you may want to work with plugins or modules specifically designed for that platform rather than editing raw HTML.

We’ve got you covered, Drupal fans! Today, we’re proud to announce the AWeber Web Form module for Drupal, using the AWeber API to add signup forms to your Drupal site. Keep reading to get the module running on your site in just a few steps.

What’s Drupal Anyway?

If you’re already familiar with Drupal and just want to get the module installed, just scroll down to the step by step instructions below or take a look at our knowledge base.

If you aren’t familiar with Drupal, it is a CMS often used to build websites. Drupal is an open source project with a wide range of modules like ours available to cater to website owners’ needs.

If you’re interested in learning more about Drupal and how to use it, you can get started on Drupal’s website.

Step By Step Instructions

Note that you will need to have already created your list and a web form on that list before using the Drupal module to add that form to your Drupal site. Also note that this module is made for use with Drupal 7, so you may want to check your version number if you’re having problems.

1. Download the module here.

2. You can unzip and install the module manually by uploading the folder to the /sites/all/modules/ directory in your Drupal install (consult Drupal’s help for more information about installing contributed modules).
3. Log into your Drupal admin, then click the Modules button at the top of the page.



4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and find the “AWeber Web Form” module, then check the “Enabled” box and hit the “Save configuration” button.

   

5. Next, click the Configuration button at the top of the page.

   

6. Here, click “AWeber Drupal” under the Content Authoring section.

   

7. To authorize the connection between your Drupal site and your AWeber account, click the link below the Authorization Key box.

   

   You’ll be taken to a new page where we’ll prompt you enter your AWeber login information and click Allow Access.

   

   Copy the code from the box that appears -

   

   - and paste it into the Authorization Key box back in Drupal, then hit “Authorize.”

   

8. Then, just select the list you’d like subscribers to be added to.

   

   And finally, choose the web form that you would like to add to your Drupal site and hit “Save”.

   

9. Finally, to actually have the form appear, click the Structure button at the top of the page.

   

   Here, click “Blocks”.

   

   On this page, scroll down until you see “AWeber Web Form,” then use the drop down menu to choose where you would like the form to appear.
