1ShoppingCart Autoresponder and Follow Up Integration

Following up with customers after they purchase is a critical part of the sales process. This communication helps foster trust and loyalty from people who have already purchased from you.

By redirecting your 1ShoppingCart buyers to an opt-in form for your customer list, you can have them add to your AWeber autoresponder account.

This Can Be Used To:

Integrating AWeber with 1ShoppingCart - Step By Step

Download a PDF of this article or follow the steps below.

1. Create AWeber Opt-In Form For Your Customers

Click to View our Web Form Generator tutorialWatch a video tutorial on using the Web Form Generator

2. Place Web Form on Your Website

You now need to place the form onto a page of your site so that your customers can fill it out after purchase. Typically this will be a page of your site that is not linked to from any other pages, so that only your customers can access it.

If you are unsure how to create that web page, or how to place the form HTML onto it, please refer to your web host or website editing software for assistance.

3. Create Product in 1ShoppingCart

You now will create a product in your 1ShoppingCart account and tell 1ShoppingCart to redirect customers to the web page where you placed the AWeber web form. This way, after they pay you, your customers can sign up to your list.

Now, when someone purchases your product through 1ShoppingCart, they will be redirected to your customer opt-in form. There, they can submit the email address where they want to receive your updates, customer newsletter or other information!

    Hi there -

This helpful post raised a question for me. Since 1ShoppingCart has its own autoresponders, what would be the benefit of having an AWeber account **and** a 1ShoppingCart cart? Thanks for any insight you can provide for me on this one!

    Tammy,

1ShoppingCart does offer an autoresponder option to their users; however, as their name implies, they are primarily a payment processing solution.

At AWeber we focus solely on providing our customers the best possible email deliverability as well as autoresponder and newsletter features.

Please feel free to test out their autoresponder and newsletter functionality and deliverability against ours. I think that while you’ll find some basic features similar, in the long run you’ll find AWeber to be a more complete, feature-rich, easy to use tool for getting your email delivered.

Justin, that’s helpful information and I am thinking of switching over to AWeber. My dilemma is digital delivery…to get 1ShoppingCart to deliver digital products, I have to buy their highest level of service…and if I add AWeber to that, I’m talking about $110 per month. That’s a lot of money to me. Since the time I used AWeber several years ago, have you got a digital delivery option? Email doesn’t work very well for audio downloads, so I’m thinking something other than an email attachment. Thanks in advance for more info!

    Hi,

Why can’t we simply use the email parser system for 1shoppingcart.com too?

Isn’t that much more efficient? Clients don’t have to fill out two different forms.

(About 5% clients have a problem with the thank-you page - they close it by mistake, or it doesn’t show up etc - and so 5% people who pay won’t signup by filling the aweber.com form - and so I think the email parser system is much better and you should write a blog post explaining that.)

    Ankesh,

I considered that when writing this post; however, I feel that the above solution is the better one. Here’s why:

If someone has difficulty accessing your thank you page, they will likely contact you about it. At that point, you send them the URL, they can go there and fill out the form. Takes you maybe a minute to reply with the link.

If for whatever reason they have an issue getting the email after filling out the form (unlikely but possible), they simply return there and submit the form again.

If someone is added to your list via the email parser and has difficulty getting the message, you can’t recreate the payment notification to your autoresponder. Getting that person on your list is now a manual process for you - you’d need to forward the email from your buyer to us so that we could assist, wait for our reply, and then reply to your buyer.

I went with the solution that I feel is best for our - and your - clients.

This is hardly integration. Integration would be: Someone buys a product with 1shoppingcart, their email is added to an aweber list.

This is just a way to get more subscribers to your email list.

    You can do better Justin!

Hi Justin - we’ve got the Aweber email parser working with Viral Sales Generator - our new integrated affiliate and membership platform, which also provides digital delivery of (paid or free) downloadable files and viewable (paid or free) content.

Would you like me to make an education module with screenshots and send it to you?

    Regards,
    Peter

    Justin,

1 shopping cart e-mail is simply HORRIBLE. And I love my awebber account, so thanks for publishing this info. I can’t wait to get some of my 1shoppingcart lists over to awebber. I could give you the long list of 1shoppingcart e-mail problems, but I’ll spare you the boring details.

My only question is, would it make sense to set up the parser as well as the thank you opt-in? Just to be safe and ensure we get everybody?

I appreciate your reply as I’m serious about moving everything over next week.

So any chance of writing an article with how to have 1shoppingcart added an aweber email without them entering all their info after a client buys. It helps when the client doesn’t have to do a lot of extra steps.

I agree with Donovan that this is not really integration with 1ShoppingCart. I love Aweber and their email deliverability and would much rather use it for emails. However, I have issues with asking customers to fill out ANOTHER form after they’ve completed the purchase. If they don’t feel like signing up for another list, they’ll just close the window after the Thank You page.

Perhaps 1ShoppingCart’s email system is not the greatest system out there but you will at least be able to touch ALL of your customers.

Is the deliverability in Aweber that much better to overcome the number of clients lost in the conversion process? I took a look at the other articles on integration and it looks like PayDotCom is a more integrated solution. We might switch over to PayDotCom if that is a better solution. I’d love to hear your input on the integration of aWeber in these two systems.

    Alex and Erik,

It is possible to use an email parser with 1ShoppingCart as is done with PayPal and PayDotCom, rather than using a web form.

I’ll take some screenshots and put together an article on that alternative.

In the meantime, here’s a summary of what to do:

    * Login to your account and go to "List Settings" > "Email Parser"
    * Enable the parser named "Payment Processor: 1Shoppingcart.com Orders"
    * Tell 1ShoppingCart to send the payment notification email to your AWeber autoresponder email address

The problems I found with the automated integration though is that you can’t segment your customer. For instance, if you have 4 products in 1Shopping Cart and you want them segmented for the future promotions, you can’t have them integrated with 4 corresponding aweber lists. At best you can lump everyone into one.

    Hi Justin,

My understanding with the email parser for 1Shopping Cart is that you can’t set up individual autoresponder per product.

So if one product required different instruction or if you wanted to do a follow up series for a product etc. you couldn’t use the email parser.

I prefer Aweber over 1Shopping Cart’s email system and did something similiar to your suggestion. On the thank you page, I set up an aweber form. I invited the client to join our VIP list and receive some additional unadvertised bonuses. I also let them know they will get first dibbs on new launches along with VIP only discounts.

Not everybody joins, but those who do indicate further interest in our services.

    Ann

Paula and the Time Diva make a good point.

Since 1ShoppingCart does not let you specify a different email address for each product, if you use the email parser method all buyers are added to the same list regardless of what they purchased.

    Justin:

Ragaring using the Aweber email parser for 1shoppingcart orders, you mentioned:

" Login to your account and go to "List Settings" > "Email Parser"
    * Enable the parser named "Payment Processor: 1Shoppingcart.com Orders"
    * Tell 1ShoppingCart to send the payment notification email to your AWeber autoresponder email address"

Is the place where I enter the Aweber autoresponder email address on 1shop really labeled as the "Order Notice Email – (Primary or Secondary Destination)" feild?

Just wanted to clarify the right spot for this.

I just used the email parser, but for some reason now, it recognizes the order confirmation email sent to the list as from MY email address instead of the customers.
