System Maintenance: Keeping AWeber Running Strong

Justin Premick - February 28th, 2008

Many of our customers come to AWeber for fast, reliable service and powerful email marketing features like the enhancements made to our Blog Broadcaster in recent weeks.

The flipside of making AWeber do more for you — and faster — as we grow is the need to perform upgrades and system maintenance from time to time.

3 Affiliate Email Marketing Ideas

Justin Premick - February 28th, 2008

Just got back from Affiliate Summit in Las Vegas.

It was a great event, from all of the affiliate marketers and AWeber users we met to the keynote by Jason Calacanis about the need for affiliates to create additional value for visitors instead of simply replicating company-provided sites and resources.

(Example for our own affiliates: use our posts here as a starting point to write a reaction piece, or if you use AWeber, do a self-case study about how you’ve built and optimized your own email marketing campaign with us).

I didn’t hear as much talk as I’d like about how affiliates can more successfully market by email. So let’s talk about it here!

Do You Make These Mistakes In Your Email Footer?

Justin Premick - February 21st, 2008

It’s been a while since we’ve picked apart an email campaign.

I’m not really a fan of being negative, but a great example of what not to do came across my desk the other day, and I can’t help but share it with you.

Please don’t make the same mistakes with your email footer that these guys did.

3 Tips to Optimize Your Email Landing Pages

Marc Kline - February 19th, 2008

Magnified URL AddressThe success of our email marketing campaigns does not rely entirely on the success of our email.

What I mean is, if the goal of our email is not only to drive traffic to our websites but ultimately to convert that traffic into sales, our websites need to do their jobs too.

Email tracking and analytics let us know how our emails are performing. In order to make sure our marketing campaigns are performing as we’d hope as a whole, we’ll also want to take a look at the web pages we send our subscribers to.

How to Let Blog Readers Choose Their Email Frequency

Justin Premick - February 14th, 2008

In the comments of a post discussing our recent FeedBurner integration, Mike Hill asked a great question about email subscription options:

The scheduling would be more useful if it can be setup by the subscriber, not by me as the publisher. Is that a possibility with any subscription services on email?

To me, this would be far more useful to my readers than me picking when to get it. I’d even consider subscribing some of my blogs on email instead of RSS if this was available.

While creating a signup form that gives subscribers an unlimited number of frequency options would be tough to pull off without making the form look awkward and intimidating, it’s easy to offer them a couple of different options.

All it takes is a little HTML know-how and a few minutes to set up an extra list or 2.

How to Survey Your Customers and Prospects

Justin Premick - February 12th, 2008

It’s tempting to ask your subscribers a laundry list of questions when they sign up to your list, isn’t it?

You want to know things like how they heard about you, what competitors they were looking at, what questions they have for you, do they want you to contact them by phone (and what’s their phone number?).

The trouble, as we’ve discussed before in several posts and in our web form webinar, is that the more information you ask for in a signup form, the fewer people fill it out.

So how do you learn more about your potential subscribers without driving them away?

Read on for ideas and a video.

Are These Email Messages Missing From Your Inbox?

Marc Kline - February 7th, 2008

If you aren’t sending a continuous campaign of emails using the feature available to you, there certainly may be messages you should be sending to subscribers that you aren’t. So, we just recently posted on why email marketers nearly always should use both follow ups and newsletters for their campaigns.

What I’d like to point out today are some of the email messages you may be missing from your own inbox that should be there.

Blog Broadcast: FeedBurner Integration, Click Tracking

Justin Premick - February 5th, 2008

Fresh on the heels of the advanced rss to email scheduling options released last week come two new enhancements to help bloggers send email newsletters.

With these features, you’ll be able to take greater advantage of the social proof that FeedBurner’s subscriber counts provide, and more easily track what actions your email subscribers take when they get your newsletter.

Upcoming System Maintenance This Weekend

Justin Premick - February 1st, 2008

AWeber’s development team will be performing scheduled system maintenance this weekend from:

Saturday, February 2nd, 11:00PM EST - Sunday, February 3rd, 7:00AM EST

During this time, the AWeber Customer Control Panel will be inaccessible.

Planned maintenance sessions like this help us avoid unplanned ones down the road and continue to deliver the fast, reliable system that our users have come to expect from us over the past 9+ years.

During this time, you’ll still be able to access the parts of the site that you don’t have to login to get to (such as our blog, Knowledge Base and videos).

Anyone who signs up to your list during this time will be collected and stored in AWeber, but they won’t be added to your list until we bring the control panel back up. This helps ensure that nothing we do during maintenance inadvertently causes you to lose any subscriber data.

If you have any questions, just get in touch with our Customer Solutions Team and we’ll be happy to help.

Thanks for your patience, and for choosing AWeber!

UPDATE: As a couple of you noted, we ran a bit over the 7:00AM time originally planned for maintenance. Some of the maintenance steps took more time than anticipated.

We brought the control panel back up as quickly as possible, which was at 9:15AM. On behalf of everyone here at AWeber, I’m sorry for the delay.
