Here’s An Easy Way To Do Video Emails

Justin Premick - January 30th, 2008

Videos are a great marketing tool — they get your prospects’ attention, they let you show (not just tell) about your products, and they get passed around (helping you to get more subscribers virally).

However, as many people have found out, creating “video emails” by embedding the video directly in an HTML email (like you would on a web page) doesn’t fly. It’s simply not reliable because most email programs disable or strip out the video.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of video’s appeal in your emails!

You just have to get a bit creative…

Easily Send “Video Emails” Using Image Links

In a recent addition to our Knowledge Base, we’ve shown step-by-step how to drive your email subscribers to watch videos that you’ve posted to your site or video hosting sites like YouTube.

A Couple Pointers

I recommend using an image to link to your video — you can use text, too, but the image will naturally draw the eye and increase your response.

That said, not all of your subscribers will have images enabled in their email programs.

So, remember to put appropriate ALT text for your image, so that if they have images turned off, they know there’s a video to click to.

Example:

Has linking to videos this way worked well for you? Have you learned anything along the way that you think our readers could benefit from when creating their own video emails?

Better Results Using Both Newsletters and Follow Ups

Marc Kline - January 29th, 2008

Around the web and in conversation with ambitious new email marketers, we often hear of our company cited as either an “autoresponder” or an “email newsletter” service.

You say “toe-may-toh” I say “toe-mah-toh”, right?

Well, we often describe our service as a “permission only email marketing solution”, because autoresponders and newsletters are only two of the many features we offer. With that said, we’re not overly concerned about how our service is referred to.

What we are concerned about is how this limited perception sometimes holds back many new and even some experienced email marketers from reaching their campaigns’ potential.

My two previous posts have focused on planning your campaigns in advance to improve their quality, consistency and cohesiveness.

Justin Premick - January 16th, 2008

This is the second post in a series; you may want to read the first post on why email marketing calendars matter before reading this one.

Do you feel like you’re constantly working at the last minute to get an email out to your subscribers?

Many publishers just like you often fall behind on their email marketing campaigns. You’re focused on getting a new product ready to go to market, or improving an existing one, or working on any one of a mountain of other important areas of your business.

Your sending frequency falters, and when the realization sets in that you haven’t emailed your list in a while, you rush to get an email newsletter out to it.

Check Out These Ways to Grow Your Blog

Justin Premick - January 7th, 2008

Quick post today for those of you who are running blogs yourselves.

(Not yet using a blog to grow your business? Learn more about how blogging and email marketing go hand-in-hand.)

Today I came across a list of 16 ways to expand your blog’s reach.

I’m particularly fond of strategy #6: Establish an Email Newsletter:

Newsletters are great for monetization and are an easy way to keep certain readers (those not familiar with RSS) close to your weblog. When combined with landing pages, they work better alongside PPC advertising when it comes to capturing leads.

but the author lists plenty of other good ideas, too. Definitely worth a read.

Email Marketing Calendars, Part 1: Why You Need One

Justin Premick - January 4th, 2008

I’m sure that by now you’ve watched, read and heard a lot of people making the typical New Year’s resolutions — lose weight, read more books, learn a certain new skill, visit that vacation spot they’ve been talking about for 5 years now…

There’s one problem with these resolutions: the things we need to do to stick to them start taking up more and more of our time as we go… and most people eventually abandon their resolutions.
